Hard Body Armor (HBA) or Rifle Plates are designed to defeat certain rifle rounds. They come in level III ICW, Level III, Level III+ and Level IV. There are also some Hard plates that are level IIIA and only qualified to defeat pistol rounds.

Level III plates are designed to stop 7.62x51 M80 Ball Ammunition. Level III+ plates stop the same rounds as level III plates PLUS additional rounds. Usually this means 5.56x45 green tip but since there is currently no official standard the + is a manufacturer specific designation and can mean different things from different companies. Be sure to check the specific rounds a '+' plate is rated for.
Level IV plates are tested to defeat 7.63x63 AP rounds or armor piercing 30.06 ammunition.
